Equipment:
Electric Deep Fryer (***you can for sure fry with a regular pot but I found this little piece to be quite useful! I prefer frying in this because it SAVES SO MUCH OIL! I hate wasting oil when it comes to frying, and if you do too, this really takes a lot of the guilt away. It also reduces the mess and oil splatter, making for an overall cleaner frying process! (this is not sponsored, I'm just
super happy with this purchase and needed to express my love for it :>)
Bamboo sticks (cut in half)
Ingredients:
Filling:
4 hotdogs, rice cake, fish cake, sausage of choice
5 pieces string cheese, mozzarella
vegetable or canola oil for frying
Batter:
1 and 3/4 cups all purpose flour (210 grams)
1 cup warm water (240 ml)
2 tsp active dry yeast (6 grams)
2 tbsp sugar (24 grams)
1/2 tsp salt 3 grams)
Coating and toppings:
1/2 cup panko bread crumbs (60 grams)
ketchup
mustard
sugar
Directions:
Add sugar and yeast to warm water and let it sit for 10 minutes, until the yeast has become foamy.
In an aluminum foil pan, mix together your flour salt. Then mix in the yeast mixture until smooth. Let the batter rise overnight in the refrigerator.
After 24 hours, skewer your preferred fillings onto bamboo sticks (cut are cut in half) If you also cut your filling and alternate them on the stick. (ex. cheese, hotdog, cheese).
Take the batter out of the fridge and dip the skewers into the batter. Use a twisting motion to wrap the batter around the skewer. You may need to use your fingers to spread it more evenly.
Roll the battered skewer into the panko bread crumbs. Use your hands to firmly press everything together.
Fry the corn dog at 350 degrees Fahrenheit and fry for about 5 minutes.
Once crispy and golden brown, remove the corndogs from the oil and let cool on a cooling rack.
Add your choice of condiments, I love the combination of sugar, ketchup, and mustard on mine! Enjoy!
